I wanted to post this funny video from YouTube. My sister showed it to me almost a year ago, and I was hysterical watching the older brother's face. Enjoy!

5% Bitter, 95% Sweet
Saturday was Emily's official 18-month-birthday! Which meant that yesterday, Emily was subtly escorted to NURSERY by her mom, told to go play with the "toys" and then her mom slipped out, unnoticed, to go to Sunday School!
What freedom! For the last six months, Emily and I have been skipping Sunday School in favor of a "picnic" in the mother's room at church. Church falls right at her naptime and lunchtime, so we settle down for our little snack and quiet time. Then Daddy comes and gets her the third hour so I can go to YW. But no longer! Emily was able to stay the full two hours in nursery yesterday. I did hear her crying just a few times and the occasional "Mommy!" (Our building is TINY), but we did it!
It was a little sad to realize that Emily is in nursery. I officially don't have a baby anymore (not for long!) and Emily is getting big. But when I sat down next to Matt in Sunday School and held his hand for the entire lesson, I realized how beautiful this little freedom actually was.

Rocking Chairs, Zippers and Other Musings
It's been interesting in the lives of Emily and me lately. Since there's no coherence to the things I'm saying, I will make a list.
1. I bought a rocking chair yesterday. When Emily was born, I would rock her to sleep and nurse her on the couch. While the couch was great for sleeping while I was nursing, it was not the best place to rock. My arms are super strong, since I still rock Emily before bed for cuddle time. But now, I don't have a couch in her room, I have an armless kitchen chair. YesterdayI went to a big sale a secondhand kids store was having. And I saw the rocking chair, which has been on my "wish-list" since before Emily was born. Not wanting to nurse Nathalie in a kitchen chair or on our couch, I bought it. Guess what it cost? $25. Pretty sweet.
2. Emily got a cold from her cousin. It's been pretty nasty. She has a stuffed and runny nose, a deep cough and had a fever all weekend. We made progress today, because she actually ate 2 full meals. Normally, I don't mind sharing bites of my meal with her, but when she has snot hanging off her face, I really don't feel like sharing. Before you think I'm a gross mom and never wipe her nose, you should realize that her nose is raw from being wiped so much. I feel bad for her poor little nose and her poor little toddler self, but as much as I try, I can't control the snot.
3. Emily's other cousin taught her how to take off her pajamas. This is pretty funny, when I leave a room and she's dressed. A few minutes later, she shows up and she's naked. It was funny except for tonight, when she kept taking off her pajamas while we were getting her ready before bed.
4. We had a "toddler" day. She was cranky this morning, and mad because I made her wear a coat outside. Then at lunch, she got yogurt everywhere, so I wiped her down and took off her diaper. She promptly peed on the kitchen floor. After her nap, I went to scrub the kitchen floor and she wanted to "help." She ended up knocking my bucket of water all over the floor. Then she put her hand down her diaper TWICE and came up with poop all over her hand. Then she got mad at me when I wouldn't let her in the kitchen because she wanted to play in the broom pile while I was sleeping. It was a long and messy day.

Diaper Dance Party
In an effort to wear out the kids for bedtime, we had a dance party. Of course, it's always more fun when you're not wearing clothes. Check out their sweet moves! (Sorry it's not the right way....)
Michigan
We went on a trip to Michigan this past weekend to visit my sister-in-law and her girls. It was great! Emily got to see chickens for the first time and was way more interested in their dog. We had a great time with family.

Emily and her cousin Jason. They're both trying to climb onto this little bookshelf at the same time. It didn't work out.

Emily and her cousin Bostynn in the bath. They had a great time except when Bostynn tried to give Emily hugs. Then she'd knock Emily over and land on her.
Emily in her cute, cute, cute! Sunday outfit. It has ladybugs on it, which is good since Emily loves ladybugs right now.

7 Random Things
1. I love winter, but only if there is snow. Cold, cloudy days with no snow are just depressing.
2. I love to clean and be organized. And anyone who's ever been over to my house can attest to the fact that my home is always clean. Sometimes it gets little cluttered during the day with Emily's toys and books, but at night, all the clothes are put away, the dishes are done, the toys are organized and the books are back where they belong.
3. I get feisty when I'm pregnant. Matt can tell you that.
4. I love Emily and Matt more than anyone else in the world. My life (happily) revolves around them.
5. I like to exercise and push myself. If it hurts, I feel like I'm doing even better.
6. I CANNOT handle wet socks. Even just stepping on a little drop of water makes me have to change my socks. Matt sometimes drops water on the floor on purpose just so my socks will get wet.
7. I'm a chocaholic. Literally. But I'm attending chocaholics anonymous.

4. Repeat with the other half of the batter and topping mixture.
4. Bake for about 50 minutes. Test with toothpick. When inserted it should come out clean. Remove bread from pan to rack to cool.
Results
We liked it. It was yummy when warm, but even yummier when it had cooled and the mixture turned into a crust-type of thing. Definitely a keeper!

Baking, anyone?
One of our biggest downfalls during the winter time is that I find time on my hands but I can't go outside. So....I usually bake. Which means that not only does Emily have a horrible sweet tooth like her mom, but we've all gained more weight this winter than we wanted.
I'm also searching for some good sweets recipes that aren't brownies, cookies, cheese cake or anything amazingly rich. I found a good sweet cinnamon bread recipe today, tried it out and am posting it for those of you who have the same dilemma. It's sweet, but also a bread, so I don't feel bad about having two pieces.
So I'm posting the recipe, our results, and pictures of Emily helping Mommy with baking. Luckily this batter was light-colored. What you can see is that she has batter all around her mouth. What you can't see are the drops of it on her clothes as she dipped her pretzels in the bowl!
