Tucson Children's Museum: A MUST SEE!

I'm dedicating an entire post to the Tucson Children's Museum. One hot day, we decided to take the kids there. We didn't know what it would be like, so we took a chance. And it was AMAZING. Seriously, this children's museum was right up there in quality with COSI and the Indianapolis Children's Museum. I kid you not, it was an incredible place for the kids. Here is Lydia "building" a magnet PVC track for a golf ball.
This was really neat. See the leaves and the lines on the tree trunk? The leaves have lines in them like the tree trunk. The lines are big enough to fit a chain of little balls through, so you could build a track that started from the leaves and went all the way to the roots of the tree. Then the little balls went down the track. So cool.

This was the toddler area, which is why Emily is in here blocking off under the bridge, of course. Lydia loved the little person slide.
Cool perspective.
Lydia really loved to play with Grandpa at the museum.
Electricity ball.
In one area they had an ambulance, a fire truck and a police motorcycle. In the ambulance they had pretend medical toys (stethoscope, otoscope, blood pressure cuff, etc). There was a fireman's pole that children could climb up and down, and they could "drive" the vehicles and push buttons to make the siren lights turn on. We spent an hour in here saving Granny and Grandpa's life.
They really loved the fire truck.
And Grandpa really loved the motorcycle.
Oh yeah, you're so tough.
Future career?
In another big room was the construction section. Half of the construction section were these wood plans with large plastic bolts, washers, and wing nuts.
Getting her architect on.
In the other half of the room were big foam blocks for building. Emily chose to organize instead of build and tried to get her sisters to help her.
Charlotte didn't want to organize and had Granny tie her up instead.
Too silly.
This was after Emily had organized everything.
This was our FAVORITE room. It was the food room! A grocery store, mini shopping carts, magnetic fruit trees, air blenders, pretend garden, pretend kitchen, cash registers....we spent an hour in here too.
Just like me!
See the fruit hanging from the tree? The chain is connected to the tree and at the bottom of the chain is a strong magnet. Inserted at the top of the fruit is another magnet. So you can put fruit "on" the trees and then the kids can "pick" the fruit off. GENIUS!
"Thank you for shopping at Safeway today."
On the wall of the food room were these hilarious organs. Mouth, heart, nose, lungs and ear. Each one of them did something. If you pushed the heart in, blood vessels would like up around it and you'd hear the sound of a heartbeat. If you touched the tongue, the mouth would start yodeling or breathing.
The nose had boogers in it, and if you pulled on them (a kid favorite!) you would hear the nose sneeze.
Ear hair!!
The shopping area. Shelves, produce bins, and the fruit trees on the left side.
Here is a tree house surrounded by trees.
Lydia let Granny touch her!
Lydia decided that she was going to take up gardening like Daddy. Looks like a good harvest!
Back at the construction room, Emily worked on building a plane.
Basic framework, two wheels...
Finished product...
Those are the wing flaps and the round piece at the front is supposed to be the cockpit.
Hurry! Granny is sick!
Seriously, the Tucson Children's Museum was awesome. The girls STILL talk about it. We decided to go there every time we visit Tucson. It was amazing.

Arizona: The Time of Our Lives

So...almost two months ago the girls and I flew to Arizona! Matt had a really intense 8 week summer semester and when we looked at it, we decided that the best thing for all of us would be for me to get out of dodge so I wouldn't have to worry about bothering him during school and he would be able to focus on school. It was hard, but it turned out great. We went to AZ for my little bro's graduation from highschool!! Here's the proud graduate with Nan.
My mother's father was able to fly in as well, and I was able to sneak a rare picture (albeit blurry) of them together. I don't think they have many pictures of them together.
Oh, doodlebugs. You're so cute!
This is my nephew, Baby Noni (not really, that's his nickname) playing in my parent's little fountain with the rocks. He was absolutely devoted to putting rocks into this little bucket.
And Charlotte barlett in her sombrero.
Granny taught me to love books, and now she's teaching my girls the same! (Well, Matt and I are too...but Granny reinforces it)
We had a birthday party for my cousin's daughter. Don't you love the girls' outfits? I hope this isn't a premonition of their future occupations....
Silly smile. She still hasn't lost any teeth!
This is after I tickled her.
We walked to the pond in my parent's neighborhood and enjoyed a beautiful Arizona sunset.
Finally! A cute smile!
My mom, sister and Emily eating the bread that the ducks didn't want.
Baby Noniiii!!!
Grandpa is always good for playing horsey. I have many memories of that!
We went to the pool daily, sometimes twice daily. It was heaven and wore the girls out. Don't tell them, but that's why I took them so much!
My parents were getting ready for a church pioneer trek and tried out their outfits for us. Runway ready!
And this is on the flight home....
Charlotte and Baby Noni. He loved playing with the girls, but he was really unsure of having so many other children around. Especially Charlotte, because she loves him soooo much.
Despite the blurry low-light phone pic, Charlotte is still cute.
Still cute.
Every morning my dad goes out to feed the quail. They now come running when they hear him open the door. Charlotte, who typically got up around 5:30 or 6 am (thank you time zone), began joining him every morning.
They asked me to do their hair for church in this style.
Cute, but you can see here that she's not sure of it. Sure enough, she took it out.
Pond time.
All my siblings were able to be there. None of our husbands came, which would have been SO fun, but at least we got to see each other! This is my parents, their children and all their grandchildren.
Making the background for El Tejano, a local puppet show we put on in the family room.
Set work for El Tejano.
And the hot tub. Charlotte preferred that.
Grandpa playing "Dr. Tickle" which is where he talks in a funny accent and "tests" their feet, knees, thighs, bellies, underarms and necks for ticklishness. Is that a word?
The flight home...

All in all, it was so fun. The flights were a lot easier than I thought. I was really worried about doing it by myself, but the girls were amazing on the plane. Lydia was probably the hardest because she wanted to get down and run. We had such a great time!
